Thousands Protest Kyrgyz President

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan - Thousands of opposition supporters gathered in the driving rain Saturday to protest what they called the president's corrupt one-year rule, but dispersed peacefully after the leader addressed the crowd.

In a rally just 13 months after street protesters chased Kyrgyzstan's longtime leader, Askar Akayev, into exile, about 10,000 protesters waved red Kyrgyz flags and signs reading "Down with corruption!" "Down with thieves!" and "We are for reforms."

The two-hour rally ended after President Kurmanbek Bakiyev arrived amid heavy security along with Prime Minister Felix Kulov and said that politicians "who say that there has been no change in the country" are "blind and shortsighted."

Protesters said they had decided to give the government a month to meet their demands.

Several dozen police patrolled the rally in the capital's main square — the site of March 2005 protests that culminated in the storming of government headquarters. Some wore helmets and were armed with truncheons.

The protest was organized by opposition parties and civic groups pressing Bakiyev to follow through with promised political reforms and fight crime and corruption. They also want the resignation of two top security officials and the chief prosecutor, whom they accuse of corruption and failing to tackle crime.

Kulov said the opposition demands would be looked into, but added that "it's not possible to change everything overnight." Protesters booed.

The impoverished Central Asian nation of 5 million has been unstable since last year's uprising against Akayev, who had ruled since the Soviet era and was accused of authoritarianism and corruption.

Bakiyev, who came to power with Akayev's ouster, has fallen out with his former anti-Akayev allies and faces criticism for deteriorating public security. He is also blamed for a lack of economic improvement. In the past year, Kyrgyzstan has seen a string of high-profile murders, prison riots and other violence.

"We want constitutional reforms and the rule of law!" Omurbek Tekebayev, an opposition lawmaker and one of the protest leaders, told the cheering crowd on the Ala Too square.

Before his election last June, Bakiyev pledged to amend the constitution to curtail presidential powers and give more authority to Parliament and the government, but he later signaled that he wanted to put off the reform until 2009.

Bakiyev had issued a stern warning Wednesday, vowing to use force against protesters if they attempted to seize government headquarters. The U.S. Embassy has expressed concern about rumors of potential violence during the rally and urged both sides to refrain from violence.

Gubra Yang Sesat Lagi Menyesatkan

Ukurlah skala iman anda.

Program Penerangan & Ziarah Ukhuwah

Walaupun letih tetapi puas. Moga ALLAH S.W.T. kurniakan kekuatan.

Ahad, 24 Rabiul Awal / 23 April
Bersama-sama penggerak dari Islamic Outreach ABIM (IOA), GPTD, GPM dan PKPIM menziarahi masyarakat Cina Muslim di Pulau Ketam. Keadaan mereka agak menyedihkan.

Sabtu, 23 Rabiul Awal / 22 April
Menyampaikan taklimat berkenaan GPTD Turki pada Program Penerangan GPTD di Masjid al-Hidayah, Seksyen 18 Shah Alam bersama-sama Tuan Pengerusi GPTD, Sdr. Jufitri Joha.

Jumaat 22 Rabiul Awal (21 April)

WalLahu a'lam.

Knowing IRCICA

IRCICA is an international institution active in the fields of research, publishing, documentation and information. Its mandate covers multifarious themes in the fields of the history of Muslim nations, history of arts and sciences in Islam, and other subject areas in Islamic culture and civilisation. By means of these activities, IRCICA aims at studying and better introducing the Islamic culture and civilisation throughout the world and acting as a catalyst for research and cooperation in these areas to promote mutual understanding between Muslims and with other nations and cultures of the world.

IRCICA started its activities in 1980 as the first subsidiary organ of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) concerned with culture. The headquarters of IRCICA are located in the three buildings named Seyir Pavilion, Cit Qasr and Yaveran Building in the historical Yildiz Palace in Besiktas, Istanbul. These buildings were allocated to the Centre by the Government of the Republic of Turkey.

Prof. Dr. Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, Secretary General of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, was the Director General of IRCICA from 1980 to December 2004. Prof. İhsanoğlu was elected Secretary General of OIC by the 31st Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers (Istanbul, 14-16 June 2004).

Dr. Halit Eren, who was the Deputy Director General, was appointed Director General of IRCICA as of 1st January 2005.

ABBREVIATION OF THE CENTRE'S NAME TO "IRCICA" AND THE CENTRE'S LOGO

Abbreviating the Centre's name was not a straightforward procedure. In 1983, members of the Executive Committee agreed on the necessity of having an abbreviation, however, pronouncing the combination of the initials (R.C.I.H.A.C.) was impossible. After giving it some thought and considering all possible combinations, the Executive Committee conceived (I.R.C.I.C.A.) which contained the letters I for Istanbul or international, R for Research and C for culture. It was easy on the ear and easier to pronounce. In a short span of time, the Centre came to be identified with this abbreviation.

As to the logo, it was adopted almost by coincidence at the beginning of 1985, while the Centre was working on the production of documentary films on calligraphy. Mr. Ozkul Eren, an architect from Istanbul, who was assisting the Centre in this work, presented a logo -the present one- that he had designed for the Centre on his own initiative. After examining the logo, the Executive Committee agreed that it carried the necessary Islamic character and it was also convenient from the point of view of simplicity, form, etc.

Imams and Rabbis Convene in Seville for Dialogue

By Suleyman Kurt, Ankara Published: Wednesday, March 15, 2006 zaman.com

Muslim and Jewish clergies from all over the world will come together in Spain for dialogue encouraging peace among civilizations.

Ecclesiastics will exchange views on "Family and Modernity," "Technology and Ethics," "Stress between Individuals and Their Social Responsibilities," and "Faith in Secular Societies".

The second "World Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace" will be held in the Spanish city of Seville on March 19-22.

Istanbul Grand Mufti Mustafa Cagrici and Turkey’s Jewish Chief Rabbi Ishak Haleva will also join the convention.

The Muslim religious delegation will be represented by 62 officials and the Jewish by 53. Lecturers and authorities working on theology will take part in the Seville meeting. The Christian world will also be represented at gatherings.

The Dean of the Faculty of Theology at 19 Mayis University Osman Zumrut, lecturer Mahmut Aydin, and Islamic University of Rotterdam Dean Ahmet Akgunduz are among the Turkish authorities attending. Participants include the Paris Mosque Chief Imam, Nigerian and North America Bosnian Society imams and the kadi of Tel Aviv.

The first "World Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace" conference was held in Brussels in January 2005.

Topics such as "Establishing confidence and dialogue between Muslims and Jews, increasing clergies' effectiveness in preventing clashes in various parts of the world, religious leaders' contribution in overcoming the fanatics misinterpreting the religion and establishing the daily communication in necessary fields" will be dealt this year.

Imams and rabbis aim at expanding the network among the religious leaders and making this effective on political leaders and public opinion. The action plan to be prepared after the meetings will focus on education and on the education of peace especially.
